AEW Dynamite Results
This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite kicks off with Tony Schiavone in the ring who brings out The Hurt Syndicate. MVP says he needs no introduction and has Schiavone leave the ring. MVP introduces Shelton Benjamin and Bobby Lashley.
Porter says their goal is to enrich the lives of younger talent much like they were able to as they became the fearsome threesome they are today. MVP says if he offers you his business card, it’s a golden ticket for the rest of your life, but if you reject it… this happens.
They air a quick video of Lashley’s debut and The Hurt Syndicate attacking Swerve Strickland. Strickland comes out but is restrained on the stage by Prince Nana and a bunch of referees. Strickland challenges Bobby Lashley to a match at Full Gear. MVP accepts.
Claudio Castagnoli and PAC (w/ Wheeler Yuta) vs. Orange Cassidy and Darby Allin
- The finish of the match saw Wheeler Yuta, Marina Shafir, and Jon Moxley all get involved. The referee was taken out by Shafir.
Winners: Orange Cassidy and Darby Allin via disqualification
The attack continued on Cassidy and Allin until The Conglomeration hit the ring and sent the Death Riders running into the crowd.
Grade: B+
What a great match to kick off this show until the finish. This match freaking ruled, plain and simple. All four men had their working boots on and they gave us one hell of a match. I’m annoyed that it ended like it did, but with Moxley’s new Death Riders stable this is becoming the new annoying norm of AEW. I miss the old days when only 2% of the matches in this company were decided by countout or disqualification. How about we restore THAT feeling, TK?
Ricochet teases his mystery partner tonight on AEW Dynamite
Ricochet is backstage with Renee Paquette. Paquette tries to get Ricochet to reveal his mystery partner, but he keeps that to himself. The Hurt Syndicate approaches and MVP wishes Ricochet good luck later tonight in the main event.
Fight Without Honor Trios Match: The Learning Tree vs. The Conglomeration (Mark Briscoe, Kyle O’Reilly, Tomohiro Ishii)
- The finish of the match saw Tomohiro Ishii hit Chris Jericho with a brainbuster to score the pinfall victory for his team.
Winners: The Conglomeration
Grade: A-
A fun trainwreck match between The Learning Tree and The Conglomeration. They’re clearly setting up a match between Chris Jericho and Tomohiro Ishii for the Ring of Honor World Championship. Not something I’m overly excited to see personally, but whatever. Do it quickly and get it over with so you can have another opponent ready like a returning Samoa Joe to take the title off of Jericho at Final Battle.
Jon Moxley has a message for Orange Cassidy
Jon Moxley is backstage with Wheeler Yuta and Marina Shafir. Moxley says Yuta doesn’t owe Orange Cassidy anything. Mox says he had high hopes for Darby Allin, but he’s disappointed in him. Moxley and Shafir leave the building together, I’m sure Renee is thrilled.
Adam Cole vs. Malakai Black
- The finish of the match saw Adam Cole hit Malakai Black with The Boom to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Adam Cole
After the match, Cole extended his hand to Black for a handshake and Black knocked it away and hugged him instead. A cool moment between those two men.
Adam Cole gets on the microphone after the match and puts over Malakai Black. Cole says he only has one more match to win to get to MJF at Full Gear and Roderick Strong has two. Cole announces that he talked to Tony Khan and if he and Strong both get three wins by Full Gear they will face MJF in a three-way match at Full Gear.
We see MJF at his home furious over Cole’s announcement. He pulls out his cell phone and calls someone saying that he needs them to pay someone a visit.
Grade: A
This was the Adam Cole match that I was looking for last week. Cole and Black had an incredible matchup and I’m really glad to see him back in the ring doing what he does best. I won’t be surprised if Cole’s third opponent doesn’t turn out to be Roderick Strong, but I guess we’ll see where this story goes.
There’s plenty of bad blood between Jay White and Hangman Page
Jay White is backstage with Renee Paquette talking about his match with Hangman Page at Full Gear before Page jumps him. The two of them brawl to ringside and Page tries to hang up White’s ankle in the barricade and smash it with a chair, but Juice Robinson saves the day.
White and Juice run Hangman off through the crowd. White teases that he might be the first person to ever match Page tap out at Full Gear.
Kris Statlander is backstage with Renee Paquette. Kamille and Mercedes Mone try to hit Kris Statlander with their car but miss. Statlanders kicks the tar out of both of them and leaves both women lying.
Why did Christian Cage attack Taz?
Christian Cage comes to the ring with The Patriarchy. Cage has security detail at ringside and he says it’s for everyone’s protection when HOOK comes out later. Cage welcomes Kip Sabian into the group and says for months he’s been trying to get his attention.
Christian says Sabian taking the pen from him at Grand Slam saved him from an attack by Castagnoli and PAC ruining his guaranteed contract. Cage says in that moment Kip did more for him than any of his other sons have ever done and tells Kip that he loves him. Cage hugs Sabian as Nick Wayne looks on in disbelief.
HOOK comes out and says whatever Cage has to say, he better say it quickly because he doesn’t have any patience. Cage says he needs a son like HOOK and he took out Taz in order to get him into The Patriarchy. Cage says he wishes HOOK’s father was dead.
HOOK takes out security and hits the ring, he gets at Sabian and Cage but they get away as the rest of the security get in the ring. HOOK takes them out too as Cage keeps calling him a wildcard from the stage.
Backstage Don Callis is with Alex Marvez. Callis is approached by a man in a suit who gives him an envelope of cash and the Dynamite Diamond Ring. They play a voice message from MJF who asks Callis to take care of Adam Cole before Full Gear and threatens him if he doesn’t get the job done.
Penelope Ford vs. Jamie Hayter
- The finish of the match saw Jamie Hayter his Penelope Ford with Hayterade to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Jamie Hayter
Grade: B
The match was good despite not getting a lot of time. There’s been a disturbing trend in recent weeks of women’s matches getting a short amount of time on Dynamite compared to Rampage and Collision. I personally don’t like that and I don’t think that’s the direction the company should be going in right now.
A video package airs announcing that Mina Shirakawa returns to AEW Dynamite next week.
A video package airs for Kazuchika Okada that hypes up this year’s Continental Classic tournament.
Ricochet’s mystery partner is revealed to be Powerhouse Hobbs.
Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher vs. Ricochet and Powerhouse Hobbs
- The finish of the match saw Ricochet hit Konosuke Takeshita with the Spirt Gun to score the pinfall victory for his team.
Winners: Ricochet and Powerhouse Hobbs
Grade: A
After the match, Kyle Fletcher attacks Ricochet. This brings out Mark Davis who gets into it with Fletcher. Brian Cage and Lance Archer come out and attack Davis. Adam Cole comes out and brawls with Takeshita to the backstage area. Hobbs gets involved in the fray as Will Ospreay returns and ends the odds to send the Don Callis Family running as AEW Dynamite goes off the air.
AEW Dynamite Review
Overall, tonight was a damn good show. From top to bottom, there was a lot of great wrestling on this show. It’s a shame the women’s match was short again this week, but hopefully, that won’t be a trend that will continue in the coming weeks.
I continue to stand firm that less is more on Dynamite when it comes to Jon Moxley’s Death Riders faction. The more they are on the show, the less enjoyable the storyline becomes. In small doses, the story works.
It’s also great to see two talented stars back in the fold like Powerhouse Hobbs and Will Ospreay. The road to AEW Full Gear looks very promising right now.
Grade: A
