I’m 7w3d and am really wanting to do the NIPT testing at my next appointment at 10w. Anyone have experience with this? Did you find out gender ?

@SunflowerB4,
do you know which lab/company yours was through? Mine was unity for my first pregnancy, and it was clear you had to wait until atleast 10wks. My doctor uses materniti21 now and she said we could do it at my next appointment (I’ll be 8w5d) seems it would be too early to get conclusive results?

I’d wait til closer to the 12 week mark. If you do it too early you could get inconclusive results and have to redo. Not worth it!

@dairyQueenlover,
I’ve never done mine at 12 weeks, typically between 9/10 weeks and never received inconclusive.

Is the NIPT test still optional? 5 years ago I would have had to pay extra for the blood test for the gender so I opted for an anatomy scan at 16 weeks!! But now I think it’s standard practice? Does anyone know for sure? Is it invasive?

@sophiacassie,
I believe it is still optional but if you’re on the older side of giving birth (40 I think) they may require it.

@sophiacassie,
it’s still optional and noninvasive as they just draw some blood vials from arm! I did 2 years ago with my son, since I was 35 it was covered by insurance…but my doctor had said if for some reason it wasn’t covered the place they partnered with was only charging 100 dollars for the testing. I would just ask at your appt!

My doctor said 10 weeks, but I may wait until 11 because last pregnancy I did it right at 10w and it came back that there wasn’t enough fetal dna and it freaked me out sooo bad thinking something was wrong. (Everything was fine and she is a normal healthy 1 year old now)

@powerkatie27,
That happened to me and because I was 35 at the time (plus I’m at a lower BMI, which also impacts FF) they told me the low FF meant I was high risk. The reality is it was because I exercised too close to the blood draw (I walked 3 miles to my appt, later found research showing exercise within 30-45 min of the blood draw lowers FF. My % was 3.6%. Drive to the appt the next week and it was 13.1%.) Anyway that baby is almost 5 and perfectly healthy. But yea getting low FF is not fun…

This is my fourth baby and I get it every time. Found out the gender with all. Usually you have to be 10 weeks. Technically you can get it as early as 9 but none of my OBs let me until 10.

My OB lets you do it as a walk in starting at 10 weeks. I did it for my last baby and found out gender. We will for sure do it again

I’ve done NIPT testing with my past pregnancies and will do it again with this one. It gave me some peace of mind before the anatomy scan, and I loved finding out the gender early! They just changed it to 8 weeks at my doctor’s office, so I’ll be doing it around then so excited to be able to get it done sooner this time!
